How NOT to Hire a Caricature Artist

1. AGENCIES OR CATERERS.

2. PACKAGE DEALS.

3. FRIENDS, FAMILY, AMATUERS OR STUDENTS.

4. INTROVERTS & OTHER NON- "PEOPLE PERSONS."

5. NON-PROFESSIONALS WHO "DO IT ON THE SIDE."

CARICATURE PERFORMANCE ART is a highly specialized area... good caricature artists are NOT a dime a dozen, do not grow on trees, are not served up like Fast Food burgers!

You wouldn't call a caterer or agency and say, "Send me a comedian" or "Send me a speaker", as if just anyone calling themselves a comedian or a speaker would do. You want to know that the comedian or speaker is GOOD. Why would you settle for anything less in a caricature artist?
There are good caricature artists and there are bad caricature artists and there are good portrait artists, landscape artists, watercolor artists, commercial artists, realistic artists and other artists who can't draw a caricature worth a fig. There are also good caricature artists who produce nice work but who are so painfully slow there is no way they are suited to perform at an event.
CARICATURE PERFORMANCE ART is a highly specialized area which requires an ability to see the world from a funny perspective, to draw in a naturally funny style, to draw quickly enough to be viable at an event (and entertaining to watch), to perform in a way that generates fun for the person being drawn and the people watching and at a level where virtually everyone agrees that the likeness is on target and funny.
